Responsibilities
  • Independently chair statutory reviews for looked after children, ensuring their voices are a key part of the decision-making process.
  • Hold pre-meetings with children, young people, and professionals to ensure positive contributions to reviews.
  • Track the implementation of recommendations and ensure full accountability from all agencies involved.
  • Contribute to providing placements that are closer to home and adhere to Best Value principles.
  • Invoke the Dispute Resolution process when necessary and address any issues of Human Rights Infringement.
  • Ensure that care plans are informed, effective, and tailored to meet the individual needs of each child.
  • Identify gaps in assessments or service provisions and communicate these needs effectively.
  • Promote and facilitate access to advocacy services for children where needed.
  • Safeguard against drift in care planning and ensure timely delivery of necessary services.
  • Monitor the council’s performance as a corporate parent and identify any areas needing improvement.
  • Contribute to regional network meetings and support the continuous improvement of the service.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training for the service, adapting to new guidance or legislative changes.
  • Provide statistical information to inform and enhance service performance.
  • Contribute to the annual service report and help develop a shared vision within the IRO team.
  • Ensure that flexible care packages cater to the special needs of looked after children.
  • Conduct meetings with thoroughness and deliver reports clearly and concisely.
