Overview

Your role

Are you passionate about helping an organization address employee workplace issues fairly and consistently? Do you believe that HR has a role to play in proactively preventing issues from arising through clear policy, education and awareness? Are you an expert in providing employee relations (ER) advice and solutions to colleagues on complex and highly sensitive matters?

Reporting to the UK Head of Employee Relations, you will lead and manage the ER Advisory team, comprising of two ER advisory specialists based in London. Under your leadership, you and your team will:

  • Provide advice and guidance on a range of employee related issues including workplace complaints, conduct and capability issues, dispute resolution and redundancy, outsourcing and restructuring
  • Conduct investigations into alleged misconduct and workplace issues in a fair and balanced way
  • Manage the collective consultation process and the framework we have in place with the UK Employee Forum, ensuring compliance with UK legal obligations
  • Design and deliver ER related training, including "working with respect" training to our GTP and apprentice population, as well as training for the UK HR Advisory team
  • Take responsibility for relevant sections of the UK Employee Handbook including any required changes and enhancements, as well as reviewing and updating ER guidance documents and settlement agreements (as required)
  • Partner with Employment Legal and other control functions, supporting the development and governance of policies and procedures

In addition, you will:

  • Monitor and be accountable for the effective and efficient handling of cases by the ER Advisory team
  • Act as a point of escalation for ER advisory matters, personally managing some of the more sensitive or complex cases
  • Take proactive measures to mitigate risk related to employee relations matters
  • Support the UK head of Employee Relations in other activities in their role.
  • Conduct complex investigations into workplace complaints and alleged misconduct in a fair and balanced way.
  • Undertake culture reviews, assess findings, and make recommendations to address any concerns identified.

We provide trusted specialist ER advice and carry out investigations related to employee behavior, ensuring fair and consistent treatment of employee-related matters and mitigating potential risk to our brand. As the ER Advisory lead, you'll play an important role in identifying and highlighting ER trends and proposing preventative measures.

Your expertise
  • Worked in a legal or HR environment handling ER matters and have an excellent practical knowledge of UK employment law, ideally a qualified employment lawyer
  • Good practical working knowledge of ER policy/practice and be well versed in HR best practice
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal - with the ability to effectively influence and interact with employees at all levels in the organization
  • Sound critical thinking, problem-solving and negotiating skills, with the ability to apply those skills to a wide range of HR issues
  • Discrete in handling employee concerns and complaints
  • Project management and report writing skills
  • Team management experience desirable
