Westinghouse - Springfields Fuels Ltd, the UK's leading nuclear fuels manufacturing site, is looking for an experienced Electrical / Electrical Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer who has experience maintaining EC&I equipment, such as automated machines, switchgear, MCCs, Inverters, PLCs, control valves, and field instrumentation. As an EC&I Engineer, you will work in partnership with leaders, key stakeholders, and the Engineering Team to implement solutions to high engineering standards. You will be the 'intelligent customer' for new designs, ensuring technical compliance with statutory regulations and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive improvements in the EC&I engineering capability across Oxide Fuels manufacturing, providing coaching and leading a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
  • Lead processes to identify improvement opportunities and effectively communicate their benefits to stakeholders.
  • Develop new talent through mentoring programmes and apprenticeship schemes.
  • Develop EC&I maintenance routines in conjunction with equipment suppliers.
  • Ensure systems comply with regulations, standards, and procedures.
  • Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
  • Manage workload and provide progress updates.
  • Conduct plant walkdowns and witness EC&I testing.
  • Assist with loop checking, documentation, plant commissioning, and startup.
  • Report to management on failures and remedies.
  • Develop and maintain a network of engineering expertise across Oxide Fuels to ensure business competencies.
  • Work with systems including automated pellet presses, high-temperature sintering furnaces, robotic handling, automated grinding, and high-performance liquid filtration.
  • Ensure the safe and reliable operation of these systems.

Qualifications:

  • Experience as lead EC&I Engineer in a material and component processing setting within a COMAH regulated environment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a relevant engineering field.
  • Strong foundation in electrical and automation engineering principles, including BS7671 wiring regulations.
  • HND/BSc or equivalent in Electrical or Control & Instrument Engineering.
  • Ideally completed an indentured Control & Instrumentation Apprenticeship.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety (IEC 61508/61511 & SIL levels).
  • Effective communication skills and customer focus.
  • Ability to manage complex situations.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with a drive for career development.
  • Experience in High Hazard Chemicals Industry, with knowledge of ATEX/DSEAR and Functional Safety (desirable).
  • Member of relevant institution (e.g., IET) (desirable).
  • Proven problem-solving skills and knowledge of continuous improvement methods.
