Commercial Director
The Financial Ombudsman Service is an independent not-for-profit organisation that plays a vital role in UK financial services. Every day we help resolve disputes between consumers or small businesses and their financial service providers.
In this role you’ll develop and manage the Financial Ombudsman Service’s Contract Management Framework, applying industry best practice to enhance governance and oversight. You’ll lead a business‑partnering strategy, working closely with a network of contract managers and conducting regular assurance reviews to drive compliance and mitigate risks. Your responsibilities also include refining commercial procedures, providing expert guidance and implementing learning initiatives to build contract management capability across the organisation. Using data and digital tools you’ll support reporting, compliance monitoring and supplier assessments while collaborating with internal teams to improve third‑party management and contribute to our Environmental Social Governance (ESG) objectives.
Demonstrable experience in procurement and/or contract management within public or private sector organisations. Evidence of senior‑level engagement with both internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to use management information (MI) systems to inform decision‑making and drive commercial outcomes. Experience in working collaboratively with business stakeholders and suppliers to achieve value for money in complex contractual situations.
Ability to clearly articulate the principles and benefits of contract management practices to non‑expert audiences. Demonstrable track record of prioritising tasks effectively and managing conflicting demands in a fast‑paced environment. Experience in developing and delivering learning initiatives to build contract management capability. Understanding of Environmental Social Governance (ESG) considerations within contract management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as reflected in collaborative work and stakeholder management.
