Job description

Peterborough Limited are recruiting for a Community Collections Inventory Officer to work at our Museum site in Peterborough.

Fixed Term contract ending 31/07/2027 - 37 hours per week - £24,462 per annum

The main purpose of this role is to maximise collections, accessibility and accountability by completing collection wide inventories with community volunteers to spectrum 5.1 standards. To use the process of collection inventories to promote the role of the museum in safeguarding collections via online engagement.

Key Deliverables
  • To programme and document collection inventories across all collection departments to Spectrum 5.1 standards.
  • To research and collate existing collections inventory documentation and ensure all inventories updated.
  • Prepare collections inventory data ready for uploading onto CMS system.
  • Assist Collections Information Officer with data cleaning of CMS system, meeting national terminology conventions.
  • To manage, develop, oversee and support a team of volunteers to work on collections inventories, encouraging community engagement with the collections.
  • To share collections stories through social media, collections online system and public engagement.
  • To promote museum collections work to museum audiences internally and externally.
  • Advise Heritage Collections and Museum Exhibition Manager of collections condition and conservation issues as part of inventory process.
  • To undertake tasks requiring object handling and to repackaging objects in appropriate museum conservation materials.
  • To operate within the museum's collections management procedures and policies.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and strategies relating to the Museum collections and ensure effective and efficient implementation.
  • Support exhibitions and learning and event programmes giving public access to collections and related information as required.
  • Assist Collections team with enquiries and research visits as required.
  • To carry out all responsibilities with regard to the Peterborough Limited's Customer Care and Equal Opportunities Policies and Procedures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Micromusee or a similar collections management system - desirable.
  • A degree in a heritage related subject would be desirable.
  • A post graduate degree in Museum Studies or related subject desirable.
  • A passion for heritage and bringing the past alive through the development and use of the collections.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbal.
  • Ability to work to a planned approach across a range of issues.
  • Ability to successfully multi-task.
