Overview

Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology. We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist, experienced in Neuropsychology and rehabilitation, to join our Neuropsychology team. It is a great time to be joining us as we further develop our services across inpatient, outpatient and community settings.

The role will involve neuropsychological assessment and intervention within multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation teams through direct work with patients, families and carers, and through supporting the work of multidisciplinary colleagues. The post holder will be part of neurorehabilitation services as well as joining a team of Psychologists working within physical health and rehabilitation services. They will supervise and support the psychological assessments and therapy provided by other psychology staff and others who provide psychologically based care and treatment.

They will support a culture of research and utilise research skills for audit, policy and service developments and propose and implement policy changes within the service and the broader multidisciplinary team. They will also be highly visible and accessible and a figure to whom staff, patients and their families can turn to for assistance, advice and support.

Responsibilities
  1. Neuropsychological assessment, formulation and intervention within neurorehabilitation services with patients, families and carers.
  2. Interdisciplinary working with colleagues to support the progression of rehabilitation interventions.
  3. Supporting the development of psychologically-informed practice in services.
  4. Assessment and management of risk.
  5. Research, audit and evaluation of services.
  6. Teaching, training and supervision.
  7. Supervision is available within the team for those seeking to pursue further training in Neuropsychology to gain eligibility for the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. We have also previously been successful in obtaining funding for aspects of this training.
  8. Be Part of Our Team and contribute to the Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC) environment and its services.
  9. To provide specialist psychological assessment of clients based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological assessment, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
  10. Deliver and present highly complex, communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  11. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s psychological problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems, and employing methods of proven efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
  12. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups within and across teams, adjusting and refining psychological formulations and drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining provisional hypotheses.
  13. To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning developmental processes that shape the individual, family or group.
  14. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychological based standard care plans.
  15. To provide highly specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to client’s formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
  16. To ensure that all members of the service have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding client needs, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of psychological research and theory.
  17. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide general advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
  18. To act as key worker in services, ensuring the provision of a care package appropriate for the client’s needs, coordinating the work of others involved with care, taking responsibility for arranging goal planning reviews as required and communicating effectively with the client, their family and all others involved in the network of care, and to monitor progress during the multi-disciplinary interventions.
  19. Specialist psychological assessment to communicate with clients with a wide range of presenting problems, including clients with complex communication difficulties, managing unpredictable clinical situations and exposure to distress, reflecting and containing own emotions and those of others.
  20. To provide expertise, advice and support to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by all members of the treatment team.
  21. To facilitate clinical visits to patients’ homes as necessary.
