They focus on open-source (Drupal and WordPress) website strategy, redesigns, development, integrations and ongoing support.
Role Overview
The Business Development Support Specialist will assist the Director of Business Development with lead identification, proposal creation, deal management, and internal tracking. The role demands comfort in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment where priorities shift regularly based on lead viability and strategic priorities. Success is measured by the quality and efficiency of proposal creation rather than solely by winning bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle inbound inquiries (via email) and research RFPs and lead targets.
- Draft, edit, and assemble proposals using existing materials, identifying where gaps need to be filled and thoughtful alignment of agency’s value to potential client’s stated and larger strategic goals.
- Track opportunities and proposals in JIRA and HubSpot.
- Collaborate with team members asynchronously and during critical East Coast hours (Mon, Tue, Fri).
- Apply AI tools to improve efficiency in proposal creation and opportunity identification.
Ideal Candidate Qualities
- Quick-thinking, creative, and adaptable .
- Strong attention to detail (no spelling errors in names, accurate proposal content such as using “plugin” for WordPress and “module” for Drupal).
- Comfortable iterating and collaborating in a flexible work environment, while understanding the need to be available to support key deadlines.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills; able to organize content into cohesive proposals.
- Curious and proactive in identifying differentiators and opportunities.
- Willingness to learn and grow within the agency.
Preferred Background/Skills:
- Experience in proposal writing, business development support, journalism, or technical project management.
- Familiarity CRM systems, proper formatting in Google Docs, and project tracking tools.
- Familiarity with AI tools is a nice-to-have, but not required. A willingness to learn within them, however, is encouraged.
- Ability to work asynchronously with team members in multiple time zones, while working closely with the Director of Business development during their workday
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
