Skilled Operative

Role type: Skilled Operative

The Role

Carry out tasks set by site supervisors and gangers to a high level of safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand all relevant risk and method statements
• Use best/safe practice on all tasks
• Conduct checks on equipment used
• Install drainage, lay concrete, kerbs, pavements, and carry out excavation, groundworks, digging trenches, loading and unloading materials
• Maintain a safe, tidy workplace
• Implement best practice procedures
• Maximise use of own working time
• Ensure signed up for all permits and briefings before commencing work
• Communicate concerns to site supervisor
• Report near‑miss incidents to site management
• Attend all site briefings, forums, and toolbox talks
• Deputise for conducting briefings and toolbox talks

Essential

• Experience in general civil works (earthworks, drainage, ducting, kerbing, and concreting)
• CSCS card
• Proficiency with CPCS forward tipping dumper, slinger signaller, ride‑on roller, 360 excavator, or telehandler

Desirable

• SSSTS/SMSTS certification
• ½ day environmental awareness course
• NRSWA qualification
