Overview

We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Engineer (COBOL, JCL) to join our enterprise technology team. The role involves designing, developing, maintaining, and modernizing legacy mainframe applications, ensuring stability, performance, and integration with modern systems. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in COBOL programming, JCL job control, and mainframe utilities, combined with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in mission-critical environments such as banking, insurance, healthcare, or telecom.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues to ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Write, modify, and optimize JCL scripts for batch processing and automation.
• Work with DB2 databases: develop queries, optimize performance, and maintain data integrity.
• Participate in system modernization projects, integrating mainframe systems with cloud or distributed platforms.
• Collaborate with business analysts and functional teams to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Perform code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure software quality and compliance.
• Support migration, upgrade, and disaster recovery planning.
• Document processes, solutions, and best practices for ongoing knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Mainframe development and support.
• Strong programming knowledge in COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2.
• Experience with batch and online processing in large-scale enterprise systems.
• Familiarity with utilities (SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, DFSORT, etc.).
• Knowledge of mainframe testing and debugging tools (Expeditor, Abend-Aid, File-Aid).
• Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile/Waterfall methodologies.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with experience in production support.
• Excellent communication skills, able to work with cross-functional teams in a remote setup.

Nice to Have

• Experience in mainframe-to-cloud migration projects (AWS Mainframe Modernization, Azure, GCP).
• Exposure to API integration with mainframe applications (REST, SOAP, MQ).
• Knowledge of Rexx scripting or Assembler.
• Experience in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, telecom, government).
• Familiarity with DevOps tools for mainframe (Endevor, Changeman, Git for Mainframe).
