The Chair of Laser Technology LLT at RWTH Aachen University, together with the cooperating Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, is Europe's leading center for basic and contract research in the field of laser technology.

The Laser Metal Deposition department at Fraunhofer ILT works on application-oriented research projects with partners from industry. We cover a wide range of applications, from coating and repair to additive manufacturing. Consequently, the topics for theses and project work are equally diverse. Currently, we have openings in programming, process optimization, sensor integration, material studies, and many more. If you are interested in applied research, feel free to contact us!

What you will do

  • We have several interesting topics for thesis projects in the field of laser metal deposition, which always include:
    • Research and documentation of the state of the art
    • Independent planning and execution of experiments
    • Execution of various processes
    • Documentation and discussion of the results

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying engineering, computer science, or a comparable technical degree program
  • Interest in industry-related project work in application-oriented research
  • Independent, organized, and structured working style
  • Initial experience in additive manufacturing, laser metal deposition, laser technology, and materials science is advantageous but not mandatory
