Job description
Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Join Boeing Commercial Airplanes! We are a global leader in manufacturing commercial jetliners, with over 14,000 aircraft connecting people and economies worldwide. With our strong commitment to safety, quality and sustainability, our planes make air travel accessible to millions.

Located in the vibrant city of Hamburg, the “Gateway to the World,” we oversee Cabin and Cargo Engineering across all Boeing programs. Inspired by the magic of flight, our globally collaborative team combines functional design with aesthetic appeal, focusing on accessibility and desirability to exceed our customers' expectations.

Hamburg, Germany – Lighting Design Engineer (Mid-Level) (m/f/d)

Our Payloads organization is responsible for everything you see when you fly; and a lot that you don’t: The Interior of the airplane, along with the Lavatories, Galleys, Cargo compartments, exterior markings, associated systems, and cabin safety all make up Payloads. We enable our airline customers to fulfil their mission and represent their brand.

In this role you will:
  • Define, develop, and document aircraft interior lighting system architectures and requirements, covering general lighting, emergency lighting, lighting scenes, and passenger information signs

  • Perform and approve analyses, simulations, and test activities to validate and verify lighting systems and components meet technical, safety, and regulatory requirements

  • Design and integrate interior lighting systems and components using 3D CAD, optical modeling and simulation tools, and electrical/mechanical integration methods across the product lifecycle

  • Lead technical coordination with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams, ensuring design maturity, qualification, certification, production readiness, and compliance with Boeing and customer requirements

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and technical robustness, addressing regulatory changes (e.g., RoHS restriction on mercury within the EU, Minamata Convention in Japan), managing technical risks, and assessing emerging lighting technologies for future aircraft applications

What we offer you:
  • Vacation:Embrace work-life balance with 32 vacation days—because you deserve time to recharge!

  • Personal Time Off:Benefit from 2 paid days for emergencies, 2 for your wedding, 1 for moving, and 3 for bereavement – because life happens!

  • Pension Plan:Build a secure future with our robust pension plan, featuring 13 monthly payments and flexible contribution options—because your future also matters to us!

  • Life & Disability Insurance:Protect your loved ones with 2x your annual salary in life insurance and 1x for total occupational disability—ensuring they’re cared for, no matter what

  • Sick Leave Salary Gap Insurance:Rest easy with income protection during sick leave, covering the gap between social security pay and your salary—so you can focus on healing

  • Global Travel Coverage & International SOS Assistance:Travel confidently with global insurance for all your business trips, ensuring your safety wherever you go

  • Medical Benefits Abroad:Stay protected in medical emergencies, no matter where your business takes you

  • Career Advancement Opportunities:Enhance your skills and advance your career through our Learning Together Program, which supports degrees, MBAs, and certifications

  • Comprehensive Wellness Support:Access our Employee Assistance & Well-Being programs for a healthier, happier you
