Position description

The Creative Technologies program at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach lower and/or upper division undergraduate courses either during the academic year or Summer Session. Possible course topics include: practices and tools of digital design (including sound design, multimedia design, web-design, and animation); media studies; justice-, decolonization-, anti-racist, transgender and feminist approaches to design and media technology; histories and cultures of digital media and/or interdisciplinarity; interdisciplinary arts and design practices; creative coding; mechatronics; playable media studies and game theory; three-dimensional design; immersive reality; machine creativity and machine learning; and natural language modeling for arts and design.

Creative Technologies is a justice-focused online- and hybrid-modality interdisciplinary arts and design major, led by faculty in Art, Music, and PPD (Performance, Play, and Design). Its curriculum features innovative teaching and learning environments, paired with an emphasis on emerging arts and design technologies and the active roles of artists and designers in cultivating a just and ethical society. Our courses intersect faculty commitments to justice, accessibility, equity, diversity, and inclusion-along cultural, gender, racial, economic, and social dimensions-with commitments to expanding access to innovative arts education, re-contextualizing and challenging Western and other hegemonic frameworks for art and design, and amplifying marginalized and historically silenced voices.

Preference will be given to candidates with any of the following qualifications:

  • Experience with synchronous and/or asynchronous online learning environments and teaching modalities.

  • Experience with justice-focused pedagogy.

  • Experience with universal design and accessibility, disability justice-informed teaching.

Internal candidates will be given priority consideration.
