The salary range for this position is CAD $42.56/Hr. - CAD $52.95/Hr.

Summary

Providence Health Care's Occupational Therapy department is currently accepting applications for a new certified Hand Therapist to join their team. Our OTs are key members of our Allied Health team, working closely with other Allied disciplines like Physiotherapy and Speech Language Pathology as well as other members of our care teams to tackle the rewarding variety of treatment needs of the patient populations we serve. Your duties will include:

  • Hand Therapy and Patient Education: Performs hand assessments and interventions for post-surgical and injury patients, provides occupational therapy treatments, and educates patients and families through individual and group teaching methods.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Program Development: Participates in weekly hand clinics and team conferences, contributes to program development by making recommendations, and supports the implementation of approved changes.
  • Clinical Supervision and Quality Assurance: Provides clinical education and supervision to students, participates in quality assurance activities, and maintains patient records according to established standards.
  • Resource Management and Research Support: Acts as a resource for hand therapy and occupational therapy practices, supports clinical research activities, and monitors supplies and equipment, ensuring maintenance and reporting malfunction.
What You Bring

Education, Training and Experience

  • Baccalaureate degree in Occupational Therapy, plus certification as a Hand Therapist or two (2) years recent related experience in complex hand therapy, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Membership in the College of Occupational Therapy of British Columbia and eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and deal effectively with patients/residents, families, staff, physicians, and other health care providers.
  • Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures related to healthcare.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather relevant data and make a multi-dimensional assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct patient/resident assessments.
  • Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient/resident care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in conflict resolution issues.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize issues and workload.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to participate in research.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide supervision and teaching to students.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and provide in-services and presentations.

Your Day to Day:

  • Performs hand assessments, interventions and follow-ups utilizing hand therapy practices for post-surgical plastics patients or other hand injuries. Provides other occupational therapy treatment and assessment utilizing recognized occupational therapy techniques and practices. Educates/counsels patients/residents, families and other team members through individual and/or group teaching methods such as one-to-one demonstration, in-services and providing teaching materials.
  • Contributes to an interdisciplinary approach to patient/resident care and program-related issues by attending weekly hand clinic and team conferences to exchange information on patient responses or issues related to patient care and discharge planning.
  • Participates in program development by providing input related to the plastics program. Makes recommendations to appropriate Program staff regarding potential changes to the program and implements upon approval.
  • Provides clinical education and supervision to students as required.
  • Participates in the quality assurance activities of occupational therapy such as the development, implementation, and evaluation of written procedures, standards, forms and patient/resident education materials and goals and objectives.
  • Maintains patient/resident records by methods such as documenting patient/resident assessments, charting patient/resident information, preparing progress notes and reports in accordance with established standards, and policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements and documenting for future reference.
  • Acts as a resource to staff regarding hand therapy and other areas of occupational therapy practice, such as effective body mechanics, ergonomic assessments and back care.
  • Supports clinical research activities by generating questions, assisting in writing proposals, and participating in data collection and interpretation, within resources.
  • Maintains knowledge of current developments in occupational therapy and specifically hand therapy by reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals, and actively participating in relevant education programs.
  • Provides work direction to support staff assigned to services area regarding treatment, preparation, and patient/resident related activities. Monitors and controls levels of supplies and equipment, and reports equipment malfunctions when necessary. Arranges for equipment maintenance as required.
  • Maintains administrative reporting such as completion of workload measurement information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
