Jobbeschreibung
Overview

Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society (KAFS) is an Indigenous service delivery agency located in Kamloops, BC. Our team currently has 30 staff offering comprehensive services to the community from infancy to golden age in Kamloops for over 50 years. All our programs are embedded in culture. We find that many of our clients are looking for this and appreciate cultural practices such as smudging and drumming that happen on a regular basis. We are governed by a volunteer board and bylaws. Each year we hold annual general meetings and present an audited statement to the membership and our funders.

The Opportunity

The ECD (Early Childhood Development) Family Support Worker works directly with Urban Aboriginal families with children aged 0-6 who are living in conditions of risk, with the goal of improving child development, family wellness, and access to community resources. Reporting to the Family Service Manager, this role delivers culturally safe, inclusive services through in-home visits, group sessions, and one-on-one support. Services include developmental screenings, early intervention related to FAS/FAE, caregiver education, and culturally grounded activities that promote positive parenting and healthy lifestyle choices. The ECD Family Support Worker also collaborates with internal and external supports to ensure families receive holistic, coordinated care. The ideal candidate is a culturally grounded early childhood professional who builds trust, creates safe group spaces, and brings compassion and insight to their work.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provide in-home and in-office family support services using a strength-based, culturally safe, and trauma-informed approach
  • Deliver culturally appropriate programming and activities that support child development and family wellness

  • Offer education and resources to parents and caregivers related to early childhood development, parenting, nutrition, wellness, and healthy lifestyle choices
  • Support families in understanding the causes, effects, and prevention of FAS/FAE
  • Conduct screenings and assessments (e.g., ASQ) to support early identification of developmental needs
  • Evaluate children\'s developmental progress and provide intervention strategies and referrals when needed
  • Provide referrals to internal KAFS programs and external community services as appropriate
  • Attend meetings as required to support children in care
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate documentation and records of services provided, including case notes and monthly reports
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous families, Elders, service providers, and partner agencies
  • Actively participate in team meetings, training sessions, and workshops
Qualifications

  • Proven ability to assess, monitor, and support client progress
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in group facilitation and delivering workshops or educational sessions
  • Excellent crisis intervention, conflict resolution, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a dynamic team
  • Knowledge of systemic barriers, historical trauma, and issues impacting Indigenous families
