AOC Youth Support Worker

End Date: March 31, 2026

Salary: Level 2 Step 1 ($28.13 per hour)

Responsibilities

Reporting to the K’äjìt-in Zho Evening Supervisor, the AOC Youth Support Worker delivers front-line, planned and scheduled programs and activities for youth ages 8 – 30 years. The recreational, cultural and social programs help youth gain personal competencies (life skills), self-confidence and self-awareness, social and relationship skills, conflict resolution capabilities, problem-solving and leadership skills, and opportunities to learn traditional knowledge and explore TH culture. Programming is based out of Kʼäjìt-in Zho (Youth House) and delivered from venues including the Chief John Jonas Support Centre, community facilities, on-the-land camps and occasionally in other Yukon communities. The incumbent works closely with youth to establish trust, provide support, guidance and mentorship, and ensure daily programming activities are effectively organized and delivered.

Eligibility

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on organizational needs by proceeding to the next highest ranked candidate until the list expires.

Essential Qualifications
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent combined with coursework or training in mental health, community work, youth work, or in a related field. An equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with children, youth or young adults and leading activities, recreational programs, and/or group excursions.
  • Sound understanding of the social-emotional and developmental challenges faced by youth, such as substance use, sexuality and risky behaviors.
  • Ability to provide strong mentorship and act as a positive role model.
  • Ability to supervise groups of youth while engaged in programming.
  • Ability to contribute to organizing and delivering youth-based programs and activities.
  • Ability to maintain and communicate the importance of strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to set boundaries and remain professional.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with youth / students, parents / guardians, families and community members.
  • Cross cultural awareness, sensitivity and understanding.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, TH government structure, culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures, socio-economic dynamics, and the impacts of residential schools on youth and their families and communities.
Conditions of Employment
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Standard First Aid certification.
  • Class 5 driver’s license and clear Driver’s Abstract.
  • Class 4 license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, an asset.
  • Food Safe and WHMIS certificates.
  • TH101 cultural awareness training.
