Reporting to : Camp George Director with a dotted line to the Assistant Vice President of Finance

Start Date : ASAP

Salary Range : $80,000 - $90,000 CAD plus competitive benefits package

The Role

The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Business & Finance Manager to oversee and enhance the financial and administrative operations of its Canadian entities : URJ Camp George and the Reform Jewish Community of Canada (RJCC). This key role ensures that both Camp George and RJCC run efficiently while aligning with URJ’s financial policies and business practices. The Business & Finance Manager will collaborate closely with the Camp and RJCC Executive Directors to implement both short- and long-term business plans that support growth and deepen programmatic impact.

What You Will Do

Business & Financial Management

Oversee and streamline the business and financial operations for Camp George and RJCC, ensuring alignment with URJ financial policies and procedures.

Collaborate with the Camp and RJCC Executive Directors to develop and manage the annual budgets, conduct quarterly financial projections, and track performance.

Generate accurate financial reports, including spending plans, budget projections, and monthly budget-to-actual reports for the Camp George and RJCC Executive Directors.

Partner with the Camp and RJCC Executive Directors to implement short- and long-term financial strategies.

Utilize budgeting software to monitor revenues and expenditures, identifying potential financial issues and opportunities.

Produce development and grant reports, incorporating necessary financial insights for URJ’s central finance department.

Collaborate with the Camp Director to evaluate and manage vendor relationships, ensuring competitive pricing and service delivery.

Daily Financial Oversight

Manage accounting, financial tracking, and business operations for both Camp George and RJCC.

Perform bookkeeping (including HST and pension reporting), budget tracking, reconciliation, banking (deposits, transfers), petty cash management, and purchase order management.

Serve as the primary contact for camp families and synagogues regarding registration, account balances, and payments.

Administer payroll and other administrative processes for seasonal staff.

Process invoices and payments accurately and in a timely manner.

Reconcile program expenses and income, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.

Calculate and report tax-exempt tuition amounts annually.

Oversee financial assistance and scholarships, partnering with the UJA (United Jewish Appeal), and coordinate the review process for camp council decisions on financial assistance.

Coordinate insurance-related processes, including workers’ compensation, camper insurance, vehicle insurance, and general liability coverage, as directed by the URJ Risk Management team.

Support fundraising campaigns by setting up financial platforms for donations.

Supervise and support a Finance Associate who manages daily bookkeeping and administrative needs for RJCC.

Who You Are

You hold a degree (or equivalent experience) in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and are looking for a role where you can make a meaningful impact on the financial health and strategic growth of two Canadian charitable organizations. You are passionate about working in a mission-driven, community-oriented environment and possess the technical expertise to manage both daily operations and contribute to long-term growth initiatives.

Keys to Success (the must-haves)

Financial Management & Analysis : Proficient in creating, managing, and tracking annual budgets, as well as conducting quarterly financial projections. Skilled in generating and interpreting accurate financial reports, including budget-to-actual reports, spending plans, and grant reports. Strong ability to reconcile program expenses and income while maintaining up-to-date financial records. Capable of analyzing financial data to identify trends, potential issues, and opportunities for improvement. Ability to contribute to the long-term financial strategies of both Camp George and RJCC.

Accounting & Bookkeeping : In-depth knowledge of advanced bookkeeping, including handling HST, pension reporting, and tax-exempt tuition calculations. Experience processing invoices and managing payments accurately and on time. Proficient in managing payroll and administrative tasks for seasonal staff. Familiar with petty cash management, deposits, and transfers.

Administrative & Operational Efficiency : Skilled in managing day-to-day operations, including accounting, financial tracking, and registration / payment systems. Ability to handle multiple financial and administrative tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Knowledgeable in financial compliance standards and ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures. Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve financial discrepancies. Experience with payroll and HR administration is a plus.

Communication & Relationship Management : Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with camp families, synagogues, staff, and external vendors. Comfortable acting as the primary point of contact for families and synagogues regarding financial inquiries and account balances. Ability to collaborate closely with the Camp and Executive Directors to implement financial strategies and support fundraising efforts.

Self-Management & Accountability : Strong self-starter with the ability to assess priorities and manage time effectively to meet organizational goals while maintaining work-life balance. Competence in establishing clear goals aligned with organizational objectives and collaborating with management to ensure clarity and focus. Consistent initiative in staying informed about organizational updates and industry best practices.

Collaborative Teamwork : Experience working with diverse teams to achieve shared goals, ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities. Proficient in scoping projects to define purpose, outcomes, and accountability. Ability to connect people and ideas, fostering an inclusive culture and implementing solutions that incorporate diverse perspectives. Ability to clearly articulate needs and challenges to foster a transparent and collaborative work environment.

Preferred Experience

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, with 3-5 years of related experience preferred.

Experience with Intacct financial software and CampMinder registration / enrollment software is a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Occasional in-person meetings, as needed.
