A leading healthcare provider is hiring an Acute Care Site Manager for Drumheller Health Centre. This role involves providing leadership and operational direction for multiple healthcare services, ensuring quality patient care through effective resource management. The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary degree in a health profession and demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills. Reporting to the Director of Rural Acute Care in Southeast Central Alberta, the Acute Care Site Manager provides leadership and operational direction for the operating room, reprocessing unit, and programmatic responsibility for the obstetric services, as well as overall site leadership at the Drumheller Health Centre. Drumheller Health Centre’s full suite of healthcare services provides a range of care for a wide variety of medical concerns and includes a 24/7 Emergency department. Drumheller Health Centre features 33 acute care beds, and includes general medicine, surgical, maternity, and palliative care services. Teams at Drumheller Health Centre participate in interdisciplinary rounds, facilitating more effective collaboration and a holistic approach to patient care. Team members get to know one another quite well, are highly collaborative and flexible as a result. Some even describe the team as “like family.” With such a small team you get to experience various departments and specialties and have the benefit of being a part of a patient’s healthcare journey from beginning to end. The Rural Acute Site Manager is responsible for providing staff and program leadership for clinical operations at Drumheller Health Centre, as well as site leadership and collaboration. In addition, this position will have the opportunity to inform and support the implementation of local, zonal, and/or provincial initiatives. Key areas of responsibility include ensuring the effective deployment of human resources (scheduling, rotations, skill mix etc.), and creating a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace where staff feel engaged, supported, and valued, and can do their best work every day. This could include but is not limited to supporting just-in-time learning, coaching, mentoring, orientation, and ongoing staff training and development. Additionally, the manager will ensure the appropriate allocation of fiscal and capital resources across the area of accountability and understand and report on the operating budget following established AHS policies and practices. It is expected the manager will foster a culture of continuous quality improvement to ensure the ongoing delivery of safe, high-quality, consistent patient and family-centred care.
A post‑secondary degree in a health profession, health administration, leadership or other comparable degree or experience. Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession, as appropriate. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional development (e.g. continuing education courses) and leadership experience required.
Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client‑focused orientation, and commitment to providing quality services. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other health care professionals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as demonstrated effective problem‑solving. Demonstrated ability and comfort with decision‑making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to foster relationships to further the effectiveness of both the site(s) managed and programs contained within. Knowledge and understanding of Collective agreements and working with a unionised workforce. Discretion with sensitive situations, data, and personnel. Ability to work hard, have fun & contribute to a dynamic, successful healthcare team.
Possesses excellent communication skills, both verbaly and in writing. Experience leading healthcare teams & providing innovative solutions to complex system issues. Proven coaching skills to support team members to reach their full potential. Experience in a leadership role, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Strong knowledge of Rural Acute Care, surgery, obstetrics and the corresponding complexities is an asset.
