Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Environmental Superintendent in day-to-day compliance activities and tasks.
  • Overseeing environmental management efforts, compliance with environmental policies and plans.
  • Review and implementation of non-water related management plans, air quality, reclamation, waste, soil, and air quality.
  • Assist with monitoring activities related to Metal Leaching and Acid Rock Drainage, identifying risks, and mitigating in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with multiple teams, ensuring the alignment of environmental best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Manage contractors and review technician reports before government submission.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Conuma Environmental policies, standards, management plans, and regulatory requirements.
  • Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all aspects of the organization's activities.
  • Maintain a high level of environmental awareness among the workforce by conducting meetings and actively participating in planned environmental programs and drills.
  • Coordinate the implementation of environmental monitoring programs, including data assimilation, interpretation, and scheduling.
  • Contribute to the development of monitoring programs and conduct field site inspections to assess environmental risks.
  • Provide advice, resources, and assistance to contractors in the interpretation of company environmental systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Facilitate liaison with government, stakeholders, and First Nations on a project-specific basis. Other duties as required.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Earth/Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Geochemistry, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Minimum of 5 years in environmental management or water management, preferably in mining or industrial operations
  • Proficiency in environmental management software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Expertise in Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including maintaining compliance and ensuring the integration of environmental considerations into site operations
  • Broad experience in environmental aspects of the mining industry, such as water quality, environmental effects monitoring, permitting, regulatory liaison, and consultation with stakeholders and First Nations.
  • Proficiency in working with diverse teams, including operational, engineering, and environmental staff, to achieve operational objectives, manage risks, meet corporate requirements, and ensure compliance.
  • Strong communication skills maintaining relationships with regulatory agencies, First Nations, and other stakeholders.

Technical Competencies & Skills

  • Experience in implementing technical environmental programs related to resource development, preferably in the mining sector.
  • Experience in Metal Leaching and Acid Rock Drainage
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation relevant to mining in BC, including the BC Mines Act, BC Environmental Management Act, Federal Fisheries Act, Federal Species at Risk Act, and BC Wildlife Act.
  • Competency in leading practice risk assessment and management approaches.
  • Proficiency in implementing and maintaining Environmental Management Systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent project and process management skills.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups, including operational, engineering, and environmental staff.
  • Proficiency in communication with regulators, First Nations, and other stakeholders.
  • Understanding and application of leading practice techniques and technologies in environmental management at mining sites.
  • Ability to adhere to the assigned work schedule, which would be 5x2 (Monday- Friday)
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • Proven safety and attendance record.
  • Willingness and ambition to learn, self starter, ability to work in a team and independently prioritizing multiple projects.
  • Ability and willingness to work in all changing weather conditions on the mine site.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with peers, trainees, and leadership.
Wage and Benefits

Conuma Resources takes pride in providing industry-competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package that truly values our employees. Specifically for the Environmental Coordinator role, we offer an annual base salary range of $96,000.00 - $120,000.00, along with a variety of bonuses. These bonuses include monthly efficiency bonuses linked to safety and production, quarterly retention bonuses, and a performance bonus tailored to reward your contributions. Our benefits package also includes paid vacation and personal days, 7% RRSP matching, and 100% employer-paid extended health and dental care, among other valuable perks.
