Position-Site Manager
Location: Ontario
The Site Manager, Mine Operations is a key member of the Operations team, working closely with other departments to deliver safe, efficient, and responsible ore and waste extraction from the open pit mine. This role leads a large multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for implementing safe mining practices, deploying autonomous haulage and drilling fleets, and overseeing all mine production activities, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Build, recruit, and lead a high-performing, diverse Mine Operations team.
- Set clear objectives, provide training, and foster an inclusive, high-performance culture.
- Ensure resources, equipment, and systems are in place to achieve production and cost targets.
- Oversee mine production programs and collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and supervisory teams to deliver on business plans.
- Develop and use production reporting systems to monitor safety, ore grade, costs, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with mining legislation, health & safety, and environmental standards.
- Establish and monitor budgets and production targets, addressing issues as they arise.
- Promote continuous improvement and implement new methods to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve safety and environmental performance.
- Provide strategic input on mid- to long-term operations and project development.
- Lead the deployment of autonomous systems (AHS, ADS, communications infrastructure, production systems) including recruitment, safe work procedures, and productivity ramp-up.
- Work with internal teams, vendors, and regulators to ensure safe and effective autonomous operations.
Job Qualifications
- College diploma or university degree in mining, geology, commerce, or a related field.
- Minimum 15 years’ open-pit mining experience.
- Strong knowledge of open-pit mining methods, automated equipment, and production reporting systems.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable mining legislation and regulations.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to build relationships, resolve conflict, and hold teams accountable.
- Experience engaging with internal stakeholders, external partners, and Indigenous communities; understanding of Indigenous issues related to the mining sector.
