The Opportunity:

Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for an Underground Mine Trainer to join our team at our client Barrick’s Hemlo Operations near Marathon, Ontario.

  • Working an even time rotation, this position is a "drive in/drive out" role.
  • Travel assistance and accommodations provided.
Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health and Safety Superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for training underground miners, inductions of new employees, reporting and record keeping while exemplifying company and client safety policies and procedures including legislated mining regulations.

  • Complete the induction of new employees and annual refresher training for current personnel as required
  • Deliver Underground Common Core and specialty module training related to all mining tasks, including site-specific instruction on equipment used in underground operations.
  • Support and guide experienced employees in delivering peer-to-peer coaching, ensuring consistency and alignment with training objectives.
  • Ensure all training records are maintained, accurate and signed.
  • Ensure employees are trained to perform their duties following best practices, adhering to mining process requirements with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Monitor employee performance and progression, ensuring follow-up training aligns with the site’s established Progression Plan.
  • Collaborate with the Safety team and operational departments to develop and implement standardized training procedures across the mine site.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization strategies within the training program.
Qualifications

Skills and Experience:

  • Underground Mining Front Line Supervisor Common Core Certification (required)
  • Train the Trainer Certification (required)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground mining
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a mine trainer
  • Experienced and trained on underground mining equipment – Sandvik fleet including, but not limited to: Jumbo, Solo, Scoop, Deck, Haul Truck, Shotcrete sprayer, utility vehicle, etc.
  • Experience with Safety Management Database systems, with proficiency in INX software considered an asset
  • Experienced in Underground Mine Rescue (highly desirable)
  • Working at Heights Certification
  • Well-versed in the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and Mine Regulations
  • A champion of mining health and safety who leads by example
  • A natural leader with strong communication and time management skills
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-cultural environment, fostering collaboration and inclusivity
