Job summary

A public hospital in Ontario is looking for a Medical Director for the Forensic Program to provide leadership and oversight for medical care. The ideal candidate will have an FRCPC in Forensic Psychiatry and extensive experience in complex healthcare settings. Responsibilities include overseeing quality assurance, mentoring medical staff, and leading quality improvement initiatives. This permanent full-time role is based in Whitby, Ontario.

Job description
Overview

PERMANENT FULL TIME) MEDICAL DIRECTOR - FORENSIC PROGRAM at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. Reporting to the Vice-President, Medical Affairs, the Forensic Program Medical Director leads the program in collaboration with the Administrative Director according to the Board's strategic directions. The Medical Director oversees all aspects of medical care, provides medical leadership for the program, and addresses issues as they arise. This role includes leadership across quality assurance, utilization management, workplace safety, recruitment, clinical oversight, physician coverage, mentoring and evaluation of medical staff, and contribution to clinical oversight and evaluation of other health professionals. The Medical Director will provide content expertise and lead or support quality improvement initiatives, including the implementation of Quality Standards.

Ontario Shores is a public hospital located in Whitby, Ontario, affiliated with the University of Toronto and Queen’s University, with a focus on innovative, evidence-based care in a recovery‑oriented environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health theory and practice, regulatory frameworks, and evidence-based care models.
  • Ability to function as a designate of the Person-in-Charge.
Program and Community Details
  • Ontario Shores Forensic Program comprises approximately 138 assessment, general, and secure beds and supports about 130 forensic outpatients.
  • Location : Whitby, Ontario, just east of Toronto, on 76 acres of Lake Ontario shoreline.
