Job description
Overview

OpenText is a global leader in information management, where innovation, creativity, and collaboration are the key components of our corporate culture. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to partner with the most highly regarded companies in the world, tackle complex issues, and contribute to projects that shape the future of digital transformation. AI is at the heart of OpenText, powering innovation and empowering digital knowledge workers. We're hiring talent that AI can't replace to help shape the future of information management.

Your Impact

The Data Governance Manager is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization’s data governance strategy. This role ensures data is managed as a valuable corporate asset through proper governance practices, enabling compliance, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making. The position requires a balance of leadership, communication, and technical data management skills.

What the Role Offers
Non-Technical Responsibilities (Strategic & Oversight)
  1. Development and Implementation of the Data Governance Framework
  • Design, document, and operationalize a scalable Data Governance Framework aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Define roles and responsibilities for data governance participants, including Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Custodians.
  1. Creation of Data Governance Policies, Standards, and Processes
  • Author and maintain data governance policies, data standards, and control procedures across data domains (e.g., customer, product, finance).
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment with internal policies and external regulations.
  1. Monitoring and Control
  • Establish and execute governance control routines, including annual data certification, policy attestation, data domain health checks, and compliance monitoring.
  • Ensure data-related controls are integrated into broader risk management processes.
  1. Education and Training
  • Develop and deliver training programs and materials for data governance stakeholders, including onboarding for Data Stewards and recurring sessions for Data Owners.
  • Promote data governance literacy across business units through workshops, webinars, and knowledge base development.
  1. Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Provide regular updates and dashboards to the Data Governance Council and executive sponsors on data governance maturity, policy adherence, data quality, and remediation status.
  • Act as the primary liaison between data governance and data-consuming functions.
Technical Responsibilities (Operational & Tool-Based)
  1. Metadata Management via Microsoft Purview
  • Create, maintain, and enhance metadata assets within MS Purview, including technical, business, and operational metadata.
  • Define and enforce metadata standards, manage data catalogs, and ensure completeness of metadata attributes across systems.
  • Document data lineage across key data flows to support traceability, regulatory reporting, and root cause analysis.
  • Tagging and Data Classification
    • Implement consistent tagging and data classification practices based on data sensitivity, usage, and regulatory impact.
    • Collaborate with Information Security and Privacy teams to support data protection initiatives.
  • Platform data and usage management
    • Match the data tagging and lineage with a “per functional area” view so that we can understand the services that are provided to each of our business domains
    • Define and implement a framework to understand the overall consumption of Fabric capacity and associate this with the costs
    • Implement an impact assessment framework to understand what will happen when we add new functionality and data to the central data platforms – covering data volumes, compute capacity and the resultant extra resources needed
  • Data Quality Management
    • Define and operationalize data quality dimensions (e.g., completeness, accuracy, timeliness) and associated metrics.
    • Design and maintain data quality rules and validations for priority data assets.
    • Coordinate data profiling, anomaly detection, and remediation activities with Data Stewards and Data Owners.
    • Develop periodic Data Quality Reports and dashboards, highlighting trends, anomalies, and remediation status.
  • Data Cleansing and Remediation Oversight
    • Oversee execution of data cleansing activities by business and IT teams, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions (CAPAs).
    • Coordinate with upstream/downstream system owners to prevent reoccurrence of data quality issues.
    What You Need to Succeed

Education: Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Certifications in a data analytics field are a definite plus.

Experience: 3+ years in a management role delivering data solutions.

Technical Skills: Strong understanding of data management, analytics, and data visualization tools such as PowerBI. Excellent SQL skills are essential.

Analytical Skills: Proven ability to analyze complex problems and to come up with solutions to deliver against hard timelines whilst managing risk.

Project Management: self starting planning skills, ability to lead Agile methodologies across the team.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.

Note: OpenText's Employment Equity and Diversity Policy provides direction on maintaining an inclusive workplace.

If you need assistance and/or a reasonable accommodation due to a disability during the application or recruiting process, please contact us at hr@opentext.com. Our proactive approach fosters collaboration, innovation, and personal growth, enriching OpenText's vibrant workplace.
