An opportunity has opened for a Senior Project Manager in our SSE North Scotland business to lead a number of project managers who themselves lead multiple small teams installing and constructing electrical power distribution and transmission systems from 11kV to 132kV in a manner that delivers safe, profitable, timely, high workmanship quality and fit-for-purpose networks for the customer and which promotes the company in a positive light at all times.

While managing their own projects, the Senior Project Manager will supervise and direct a number of PMs as they manage, control and execute a range of diverse electrical network projects running concurrently. These may include the installation of ground-mounted and structure-mounted power system components, cable systems, switchgear, transformers, busbars, relay panels and associated equipment in substations operating at up to 132kV.

• Reporting to the Operations Manager, lead multiple project managers and teams to execute duties professionally, build team and customer confidence, and contribute to the growth of the Projects business. First-line problem solver.
• Provide leadership, drive, discipline, and support to Project Managers and teams through direction, guidance, advice, support, commitment, effort, and dedication as required by direct reports, other team members, and customers.
• Work within all set procedures and ensure Health and Safety is the priority. Undertake the site supervisor role when required, in accordance with CDM regulations as required – may include control of Customer-appointed contractors and/or company-appointed subcontract labour.
• Efficiently manage the project management role on multiple projects concurrently while supervising their team of Project Managers. Oversee tasks and task types allocated to others to achieve effective project delivery. Regularly appraise direct reports to develop skills, knowledge, and performance.
• Resource control: organise, control, and deploy materials/equipment/labour resources for upcoming works on a range of concurrent projects.
• Maintain good commercial awareness and complete valuations against a defined scope.
• Ensure safety and maintenance of all company property issued, include routine PAT or calibration testing, and report any non-serviceable items promptly.
• Produce as-built records, test results, updated drawings and project reports.

• HNC/Degree in Electrical Engineering (and/or time served)
• Good operational knowledge of electrical power distribution systems
• Site safety passport and/or experience of working on CDM sites
• SSSTS OR SMSTS is desirable, not essential
• Possession of SSE DNO authorisation to receive and cancel PTW (or alternative equivalent DNO authorisation e.g. SPEN, NPg, UKPN)
