- Operate electronic or computerized control panel from a central control room.
- Participate in training of other workers.
- Control process start-up, shut-down, and troubleshooting.
- Participate in safety audits and programs.
- Monitor outside process equipment.
- Adjust equipment, valves, pumps and controls, and process equipment.
- Develop operator procedures for normal operation, start-up or shut-down.
- Rotate between different petroleum, gas and chemical processing units during shift cycles.
- May work in a team with shared supervisory responsibilities.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations.
- Manipulate sections of pipes or drill stems at rig floor during drilling and during removal and replacement of pipes, drill stems and drill bits.
- Clean up rig areas.
- Assist in setting up, taking down and transporting drilling and service rigs and service equipment.
