About the Opportunity

Okanagan Nation Alliance has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Finance Manager based in West Kelowna, BC.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations of the organisation while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial planning.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for managing all financial functions, leading the finance team, and supporting department managers to ensure strong fiscal accountability and effective budget stewardship across the organisation.

  • Overseeing day to day finance functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, deposits, and month end and year end processes
  • Monitoring annual and departmental budgets and preparing for annual audits
  • Ensuring compliance with internal financial controls, GAAP, statutory requirements, and nonprofit regulatory frameworks
  • Preparing timely and accurate financial reports, forecasts, templates, briefing notes, and analysis for leadership and chiefs
  • Supporting strategic planning and long term financial modelling for organisational growth
  • Providing guidance to department managers on budget performance, program funding, and contract requirements
  • Recommending improvements to accounting systems, processes, and technology, including supporting implementation of new finance software
  • Participating in financial meetings, cross departmental collaboration, and capacity building within the finance team

More About You

To qualify, you will need a Chartered Professional Accountant designation or an equivalent accounting qualification, along with strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial practices, and 5+ years of finance management experience including strategic planning, supervision, and project management.

The following are required:

  • Ability to undergo a criminal record check
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to ONA communities when needed
  • Hold a valid BC driver’s license

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including strong Excel skills, and experience using QuickBooks for day to day accounting
  • Familiarity with Netsuite or the ability to adapt quickly during the organisation’s transition to this ERP system (asset)
  • In depth knowledge of First Nations financial environments, government funding structures, and program based funding
  • Proven expertise in all facets of accounting, including budget development, forecasting, and audit preparation
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, managing competing priorities and deadlines with accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to present financial information to leadership and chiefs
  • Demonstrated organisational, time management, and delegation abilities to manage a multifaceted finance function
  • Experience supervising finance staff and contributing to capacity building within a team

About the Benefits

In exchange for your hard work and dedication, you will receive a highly competitive salary ranging from $107,000 to $144,785, depending on education and experience. You will also enjoy a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Extended health, dental, family assistance, and wellness supports
  • 2 weeks vacation, along with a fully paid two week Christmas closure each year
  • Paid statutory holidays as well as specific First Nation holidays
  • 20% for benefits on top of salary to reach total compensation
  • Core hours of work are 8.30 am until 4.30 pm each day, Monday to Friday
