Primary Responsibilities
  • Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Design and implement early learning programs for children aged 2 to 6, grounded in the ELECT and Indigenous frameworks, incorporating emergent curriculum principles.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate activities that promote physical, social, emotional, and intellectual well-being, including field trips and interactive learning experiences.
  • Prepare and adapt curriculum to meet individual children’s needs and support holistic development.
  • Deliver early learning services to children and parents, including literacy and interactive learning activities, to support school readiness and smooth transitions to formal education.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of children’s development, maintain statistical data, and participate in licensing reviews and site inspections.
  • Promote family engagement through regular communication, volunteer coordination, and collaboration with the Supervisor and AHS team.
  • Provide supportive services to children and families, fostering strong, respectful relationships and inclusive practices.
  • Collaborate with community partners to support integrated service delivery for children and families.
  • Communicate daily with colleagues and parents to ensure continuity of care and shared understanding of children’s progress.
  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with children, families, and team members.
  • Support children in their daily routines, ensuring consistency, comfort, and developmental support.
  • Assist with classroom housekeeping and maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment.
  • Complete general administrative tasks, including playground inspections, fire drills, and health and sanitization reports.
  • Ensure that legislated health and safety standards are upheld at all times.
  • Participate actively as a member of the agency’s multidisciplinary team, contributing to collaborative planning and integrated service delivery.
  • Represent NCFST within the Toronto Early Years Network, promoting the organization’s values and programs.
  • Support the identification and coordination of additional developmental services for children and their families, ensuring access to appropriate resources and support.
  • Be available for reassignment to any NCFST program location within the Greater Toronto Area as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills
  • A Diploma in Early Childhood Education and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Screening – Police Reference Check and a willingness to obtain a new one upon hire.
  • Up to date immunizations.
  • Current Infant/Child CPR and Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Knowledge of Early Learning Framework, provincial and municipal policies.
  • Knowledge/understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values into practice, service and relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships.
