BC Cancer Clinical Pharmacists are an integral part of the multidisciplinary teams who support the treatment and care of people with cancer from across British Columbia. This incredibly rewarding area of pharmacy offers a balance of direct patient care, consulting with pharmacists within the provincial network, and collaborative care planning. Approaches to care within BC Cancer include drug therapy and use of alternative and complementary treatments.

Responsibilities- Provide individualization of drug therapy to patients through methods such as receiving patient charts, assessing clinical response through patient contact and collaboration with other health care providers and creating an individualized therapeutic plan.
- Interact with patients and the health care team to ensure appropriate medication therapy and to develop therapeutic plans through methods such as developing discharge plans for inpatients and medication calendars for outpatients, assisting, as part of the care team, with the formulation of a therapeutic plan for the use of supportive care medications and assessing patient comprehension of that plan, answering patient's questions and assisting with formulation of a therapeutic plan for the use of alternative and complementary treatments, and monitoring of patient compliance with therapeutic plans.
- Prepare and dispense medications and other pharmaceutical supplies to ensure appropriate medication therapy and to ensure practices and standards are in accordance with relevant federal and provincial legislation.
- Provide verbal and written drug information to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals within the Agency, to the lay public, pharmacists and other health care professionals external to the Agency and to patients through individualized counselling.
- Assist, as part of the care team, with the provision and/or financial support of non-BCCA benefit medications required to optimize the therapeutic plan through methods such as providing information and interacting with patients, health care providers and representatives from outside agencies regarding options such as compassionate release programs or obtaining financial support through emergency aid.
- Provide instruction and/or supervision of pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents through methods such as mentoring.
Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy with current registration as a Licensed Pharmacist with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
- Completion of a Hospital Pharmacy Residency Program and one (1) year of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Cancer contexts found in the foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - BC Human Rights Code, BC Anti-racism Act and how they intersect across the health care system.
Core Competencies- Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure, and has demonstrated initiatives in breaking down barriers and ensuring a safe environment ensuring a sense of belonging to all and informed by Indigenous Cultural Safety.
- Awareness of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (the Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

Wage: $51.37 - $64.19 per hour.
