The Senior Director, Risk Office at CIBC Global Asset Management (GAM) is an executive responsible for the quantitative elements of risk across all investment strategies and client segments. This role encompasses the development and execution of a robust risk management framework, performance computation and attribution, and the integration of advanced risk analytics tools.

• Risk Monitoring and Oversight: Oversee the identification, assessment, and monitoring of market, credit, liquidity, operational and model risk categories. Implement and lead regular risk assessments, stress testing, and scenario analysis to proactively identify potential vulnerabilities and mitigate emerging risks.

• Performance Computation and Attribution: Ensure the consistent application of performance measurement standards and attribution analysis across all portfolios, incorporating risk-adjusted return methodologies. Ensure all performance data is accurate and centralized within GAM’s data repository for the creation of internal and external reporting. Optimize performance attribution systems (i.e. Bloomberg Port) to enhance overall efficiency and accuracy of performance attribution reporting. Evaluate performance software solutions and AI platforms that can generate operating leverage for performance calculations and attribution analysis. Risk Tools and Models: Support the integration and application of existing risk tools and models (such as the Qi Risk Dashboards) across all GAM product lines. Provide detailed input and feedback into the development of new risk models and tools to enhance the organization’s risk analytics and portfolio construction capabilities.

• Risk Governance and Compliance: Ensure that internal risk management policies and risk mitigation strategies are consistently applied across all investment strategies and channels.

• Collaboration with Portfolio Managers: Partner closely with portfolio management teams to set risk limits and manage portfolio performance within agreed risk parameters. Provide in-depth risk analysis and guidance on risk-adjusted return methodologies, portfolio construction, and performance attribution. Monitor portfolio risks and work with managers to proactively adjust portfolios to stay within risk limits while maximizing returns.

• Risk Culture and Education: Foster a strong risk-aware culture within GAM through the development and delivery of training programs, workshops, and continuous education on risk management best practices. Promote awareness of the impact of risk management on overall performance across all teams and functions, ensuring that risk considerations are integrated into decision-making at every level.

• Strategic Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement: Engage regularly with key stakeholders across the business to ensure the alignment of risk strategies with business objectives. Support leadership in strategic decision-making by providing clear, actionable insights based on robust risk analytics and performance data.

• You have a graduate degree in quantitative field (Econ,Finance, Eng, Math, Physics)

• You can demonstrate your experience. Minimum 15 years in quantitative analysis, portfolio management, risk management with at least 5 years as director of research. Systematic portfolio construction and Management- Fixed Income, Credit, Currencies and Derivatives. Risk Management – Market, Credit, and Liquidity. Quantitative Finance – Statistical Modeling, Optimization, and Operations Research.
