Job summary

A public library in Northeastern Ontario is looking for a Head of Children's Services to lead the department and manage programs. Head of Children's Services, Goodnow Library (Sudbury)

The Goodnow Library seeks an experienced and forward‑thinking leader to oversee its Children’s Services Department. The Head of Children’s Services will manage a skilled staff and lead the planning and delivery of engaging programs and services for children and families. Serving an active and involved community, this role oversees offerings ranging from storytimes to large community events, ensuring programs support literacy, life‑long learning, and creativity. The position is a key member of the library’s leadership team and contributes to system‑wide planning, policy development, and community partnerships.

Qualifications
  • Ability to plan, manage, and evaluate programs and services and to assess their effectiveness based on community needs.
  • Genuine care and respect for children.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patrons and staff, and to present ideas and questions in a clear manner.
  • Self‑starter with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and make decisions.
  • Ability to manage a team of staff and delegate responsibilities according to skillsets, talents, and the needs of the Library.
  • A broad knowledge and appreciation of children’s literature and literacy development.
  • Ability and desire to serve as a strong advocate for children within the library and the community.
  • Working knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including Google Workplace, Canva, marketing software, Microsoft Office suite, etc.
  • Comfort using social media to promote the Library.
