Job description

CONTRACT (Tentative): July – August (8 weeks duration)

PAY: $18.00/hour

HOURS: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, 35 hours/week

Our Interdisciplinary Team is a vibrant group of professionals from diverse backgrounds working collaboratively with community members to provide wraparound care, valuing lived experiences and encouraging active participation from all involved.

The team includes a manager, Substance Use Workers, an Occupational Therapist, Case Managers, Cultural Support Workers, a Registered Nurse, and our Den Program Coordinator.

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant; to be considered, you must meet ALL the following requirements:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee protected under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Position Responsibilities
  • Identify and address immediate needs of clients.
  • Develop relationships with den participants, recognizing strengths and working respectfully with a community that has faced trauma and social exclusion.
  • Assist the den manager and team in daily operations, working closely with community members.
  • Create an inclusive, safe, and friendly environment for staff, community members, and external parties.
  • Learn about the case management process from our care team.
  • Foster a welcoming environment offering food, programming, and cultural activities that promote wellbeing.
  • Record data and complete daily logs.
  • Maintain a healthy environment through cleaning and housekeeping duties.
  • Support volunteers in daily den operations.
  • De-escalate tense situations.
  • Participate in debriefings and team meetings.
  • Engage in community events and campaigns outside regular hours.
Qualifications
  • Experience organizing group activities.
  • Understanding of challenges faced by those living in poverty.
  • Respectful and sensitive interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving skills for emotional and psychological challenges.
  • Excellent organization and multitasking abilities.
  • De-escalation skills.
  • Good listening skills, calm demeanor, and practical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to complete shift reports and data entry.
  • Strong mental health and commitment to self-care.
  • Meet all Canada Summer Jobs requirements.
  • Police Check with Vulnerable Sector and Child & Youth Intervention Check within past six months.
  • Valid First Aid certification or enrolled in a course.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is an asset.
