Working as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Surgical Care Nurse functions as an experienced, self-directed nurse by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients.

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
• Post-basic education in surgical/ambulatory care nursing on a unit-specific basis.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and training.
• Up to two (2) years of recent, related experience on a unit-specific basis.
• Basic Life Support, Level C.

• Apply nursing process as required and as described in BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards of Nursing Practice.
• Demonstrate sound organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills.
• Demonstrate sound judgment, observation, and patient assessment skills.
• Demonstrate tact and empathy.
• Prioritize and organize patient demands and care needs.
• Operate related equipment.
• Remain calm and respond appropriately in stressful and emergency situations.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
• Foster good public relations.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Physically able to perform the duties of the position.
• Work independently, with limited supervision.
