Legal Aid Alberta is seeking to fill a Full Time Payroll & Benefits Administrator in our downtown Edmonton office.The Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for supporting a wide variety of administrative and payroll/benefit functions to ensure the timely and accurate completion of payroll processing and the administration of benefits for all Legal Aid Alberta employees. This includes providing day-to-day employee support for all employee payroll and benefit questions.

Job Description
Reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Lead, some of the key responsibilities include:
Payroll
- Compiling, verifying and processing regular and exception payroll runs for hourly and salaried employees
- Verifying, approving and processing changes to employee records in Dayforce
- Ensuring management approval of time sheets is completed on schedule
- Verifying setup of new employees in Dayforce
- Calculating and remitting employees’ arrears and garnishee of wages
- Producing standard payroll reports following each pay cycle
- Completing Records of Employment (ROE) as required
- Ensuring employee payroll records are kept up to date
- Providing timely responses to management and staff regarding payroll inquiries
- Troubleshooting and researching discrepancies of payroll information and/or ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing payroll
- Assisting with the preparation and reconciliation of year end reporting
- Providing administrative support/assistance to the People & Culture team as required, including collective agreement interpretation, reporting and participation in projects and initiatives
- Providing support/assistance to Finance regarding finances related to Payroll (General Ledger accounts, Payroll payables, audits)
- Maintaining a strong working knowledge and ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures, legislation standards, and regulations
- Awareness of changes, trends, and innovations that reflect Payroll best practices
- Other duties as assigned
- Administration, reconciliation, and provision of day-to-day employee support for all employee benefits
- Providing information, support and feedback when renewing Group benefit annual rates
- Backup support for benefit reconciliation for the Payroll & Benefits Lead
Labour & Employee Relations
- Providing information, guidance and support to People & Culture team regarding compensation,collective agreement interpretation, policy and employee issues
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- Post secondary education in a relevant field. Acceptable combination of education and experience will be considered (2 years minimum)
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation or working towards is preferred
- Previous customer/client service experience is preferred
Knowledge:
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce is considered a strong asset
- Strong understanding and knowledge of payroll regulations and employment legislation
- Familiarity with unionized environments, collective agreements, and their impact on payroll processing.
- Knowledge of benefits administration, and relevant reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of core Human Resource processes and policies
- Understanding of Basic Accounting
