West Park Healthcare Centre seeking Art for Installation in the new Hospital

West Park Healthcare Centre (WPHC) is seeking art to permanently install in its new 730,000 square foot hospital, in various public locations around the building.

As a member of the University of Toronto Health Network, West Park provides specialized rehabilitation and complex continuing care. The Hospital is an important resource for patients living in surrounding communities. Information about WPHC and its programs can be found at: www.westpark.org .

West Park hopes that artists who live and/or work in the Weston/ Mt Dennis community and surrounding neighbourhoods will be interested in this call.

SUBMISSION CRITERIA:

The primary goals of this art call are:

• To create a warm, welcoming and vibrant environment for patients and their families, with an emphasis on motivating patients to recover and get their lives back;
• To connect West Park to the cultural life of surrounding communities through the integration of diverse, expressive works of visual art.

West Park welcomes submissions of visual art works intended for wall hanging in any media and in any style. WPHC may have requirements regarding infection prevention, cleaning and safety.

Preference may be given to artists and art that:

• Demonstrates an understanding of the patients and families served by the hospital
• Illustrates diversity, equity and inclusion
• Is suitable in scale for the space (minimum size 18” x 18” +/–)

PROCESS and TIMELINE:

Submissions are due Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 12:00 PM.

Submitted work will be considered by the WPHC Art Council including patients, staff, the West Park Foundation, the hospital’s design team, and art consultant, etc.

The hospital’s hope is to select a variety of works from amongst the submissions that willenhance the lives of all at West Park – patients, families, and staff – and bring the vibrant life ofsurrounding communities into the hospital.

• West Park will offer an artist fee of $1,000 for each selected work.
• Works will be selected by March 5, 2025.

The work will be owned by WPHC. There will be appropriate recognition of the artist and thework. It is anticipated that artists, whose work(s) is selected, will give WPHC the right to publishimages of their work for hospital publicity/communication purposes.

1. A brief Bio with contact information, maximum 2 pages in MS Word or PDF file format
2. Digital images/photos of completed works– maximum 5 images in JPG format –that theartist would like WPHC to consider
3. Corresponding list of submitted works in MS Word or PDF file format, with title of theworks, dimensions and description of media

Submissions are due January 15, 2025 by 12:00 PM.
