University of Wisconsin Madison
Brantford
CAD 80.000 - 120.000
Jobbeschreibung
Job Summary:

The Department of Medical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) invites applications for a Teaching Track, full-time, renewable Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor position within the Emergency and Critical Care Section of the UW Veterinary Care Hospital. The successful candidate will join the current team of three clinical track faculty who are responsible for teaching, research, and clinical service on the UW-Madison campus. The SVM is a collegial, collaborative environment that offers specialty care with board-certified experts in allied services including anesthesia and pain management, cardiology, dentistry and oral surgery, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, medical and radiation oncology, ophthalmology, anatomic and clinical pathology, primary care, special species, and soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.

The successful candidate for the Teaching Professor Track will participate in the clinical activities of the teaching hospital, including the provision of patient care and instruction and supervision of veterinary students, interns, and residents. Availability and willingness to consult with referring veterinarians and clients, provide supervision of the emergency and critical care services, and collaborate with other services within the hospital are vitally important. Approximately 27,400 small animal patients are evaluated at UW Veterinary Care annually. The combined Emergency Medicine and Critical Care caseload exceeds 5,000 cases per year. In addition, the Critical Care service provides collaboration, consultation, and procedural support for critically ill patients hospitalized by other small animal specialties.

Teaching is the major responsibility of this position and individuals in the Teaching Professor Track at UW-Madison are involved in independent classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction as well as community and educational outreach efforts specific to their academic or clinical discipline. In addition, instructional design and development or enhancement of academic content using instructional technology, participation in curriculum development and other activities related to teaching, dissemination of teaching methods, and practice of the clinical disciplines of veterinary emergency medicine and critical care are expected. Duties include, but are not limited to:

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 60%
1. 24-28 weeks of clinical coverage and teaching
2. Training and supervision of residents and interns
3. Clinical teaching of 4th year veterinary students

NON-CLINICAL TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES 30%
1. Didactic teaching
2. Laboratory course teaching

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES 10%
1. Involvement in committees at the department, school, university, and professional organization levels
2. Participation in continuing education programs for veterinary practitioners in Wisconsin

In addition to faculty members, the UW-Madison Emergency Medicine and Critical Care team includes 6 residents, 10 rotating interns, 20 certified veterinary technicians, 11 assistants, and 2 client care liaisons. The team is excited to move into a newly built teaching hospital in March 2024, which will enhance our quality of care and allow us to function in a markedly expanded footprint. The significantly larger Emergency Room and Critical Care Units are adjacent to spaces which will support the unit including the Isolation Unit, Intermediate Care Ward, ER Procedure Room, Ventilation/Dialysis Room, Point-Of-Care Laboratory, and ECC Rounds Room.
