The Research Animal Resources and Compliance unit (RARC) is looking for an energetic individual to join our team of dedicated professionals who provide care for research animals on campus. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position reporting to the Attending Veterinarian. Responsibilities include providing veterinary care and clinical oversight to research species in biomedical settings, especially nonhuman primates. The selected candidate will also serve on an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and assist faculty and research staff with development of animal models and animal use protocol applications. The Veterinarian also assists in training programs for investigators, research staff, animal care staff, and other veterinarians; assists units in maintaining AAALAC accreditation, and provides surgical and postoperative care to research animals. Primary duties are caring for animals in the College of Letters and Science, including a colony of nonhuman primates.

Terminal Degree
DVM or VMD is required. Must be able to be licensed in one state. Board eligibility or certification in laboratory animal specialty is highly desirable. Incumbent must be able to obtain clearance to work with select agents.
Formal training and/or experience working with animals in a research setting is required. The desirable candidate will have experience with the operations and health management of animal facilities, including nonhuman primates. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation and paid holidays, sick pay, competitive insurance and savings accounts, as well as many retirement benefits. The pay range for this position is expected to be $130,000- $165,000 depending on board certification status, years of experience and qualifications.
Successful applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without need of employer sponsorship, on or before the effective date of appointment.
The Veterinarian must be able to comply with entry requirements for specialized animal facilities including, but not limited to health screening, periodic tuberculosis testing, vaccinations, and have the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)(e.g. mask, respirator, etc.) as required by SOPs or policies. A period of evaluation will be required.
