Veterinary Purchasing Co. Ltd. (VP) located in St. Marys, Ontario, a 25-minute drive from North London, is the largest veterinary owned animal health distributor in Canada. Our primary purpose is to ensure that veterinarians have the supplies they need, when they need it, to provide healthcare to all types of animals. We are currently looking for like-minded individuals to join our Finance team in an Accounting Clerk role. Be a part of the supply chain industry and join our team!

Accounting Clerk

This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Financial Controller. The successful candidate will perform various accounting and administrative tasks to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate entry of business transactions, maintaining financial records, preparing reports and assisting other clerical staff in the new fully integrated ERP system.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out various accounting and administrative duties including data entry, reconciliations, and monthly reporting.
  • Work closely with other Accounting Clerks as follows:
  • Pricing – to verify supplier invoices with respect to products received, pricing, discounts, credits, etc.; enter and review costs, deal and stock adjustment information; audit brokerage, freight and duty charges and prorate costs to each item; liaise with suppliers regarding short shipments, errors, surcharge invoices and transactions involving free goods; verifying and processing price lists.
  • Accounts payable – obtaining approvals, coding and entering invoices correctly; processing payments, reconciling supplier statements and maintaining AP and filing system.
  • Assist accounts receivable – review and enter daily deposits, collection of outstanding accounts, assist with AR reconciliation and maintaining shareholder information.
  • Processing and reconciliation of invoices and payments to third party freight carriers.
  • Communicate with vendors and customers and respond to inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • Learn, test and troubleshoot processes in new ERP system and document/update work instructions related to new processes.
  • Keep financial records, post journal entries, analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts on daily/monthly basis.
  • Process monthly bank reconciliation for multiple accounts and visas.
  • Maintain GL accounts and schedules for prepaids, assets and other accounts for month end process.
  • Assist with year-end processes, audit and preparation of working papers for external auditors.
  • Understand and follow all applicable standard operating procedures as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Health & Safety
  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and follows VP’s policies and procedures.
  • Conducts self with regard for the safety of all employees.
  • Participates in health and safety training, meetings, and drills as required; is aware of safety and evacuation procedures.
  • Reports any health & safety violations or hazards to appropriate contacts (JHSC Representative, Supervisor, Manager).

  • Follow and understand all relevant Standard Operating Procedures with respect to Good Manufacturing Practices.

Skills and Knowledge Required
  • A post-secondary Diploma or Certificate in accounting/business considered an asset.
  • 2+ years’ experience in an accounting clerk role or equivalent (public accounting experience considered an asset).
  • Ability to work independently or within a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proven negotiating/conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage time effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Compensation

Range: $43,750.00 - $62,500.00

NOTE: Salary will be determined based on the successful applicant's experience and qualifications.

  • In-person, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
