Job description

Job Title: Shift Supervisor

We are seeking a Shift Supervisor based in our Grand Forks location to join the Operations team. This position works a rotating schedule of 3 days on and 3 days off.

You must be able and willing to work both day and night shifts.

  • 12-hour shifts - Days and Nights - 7:00 – 7:00

Annual Base Pay Range: $90,000 - $105,000

Your future team:

The shift supervisor will report to the Operations Manager and have around 12-15 direct reports.

What you will be doing:

The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the daily production – ensuring employees are working according to all health and safety requirements and meeting production quality specifications, KPI’s and deadlines. Coordinating, motivating, supporting, and guiding crews to ensure a safe and efficient production while communicating daily events and corrective actions taken when production strays from targets. The Shift Supervisor will play a key role in driving the company’s growth and success by optimizing resources, enhancing productivity, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

  • Ensure strict application and adherence to all safety rules for all employees

  • Responsible to ensure that all aspects of housekeeping are in order and that all housekeeping routines are being completed

  • Responsible for entering Good Catches into the reporting database and that they are mitigated

  • Ensure adherence to Environmental policies and procedures for all employees

  • Oversee daily operations and manage the Line and/or PSM departments to meet daily production KPI’s

  • Follow the daily production schedule and set-up crews accordingly to safely and efficiently – notify the necessary personnel if any deviation from schedule becomes necessary

  • Clearly communicate the events taken place on shift and record any outstanding issues and steps already taken to try and resolve/mitigate

  • Work closely with (direct and supervise) shift maintenance to ensure smooth and continuous operations

  • Coordinate and manage rework and scrap product – find root causes for its production and take steps to mitigate. Set-up crews to ensure it gets cleaned-up and processed in an appropriate timeframe.

  • Ensure each department is filling out to completion the ROPEX boards and daily communication and acting upon deviations from targets – document when outside of the limits and corrective actions taken

  • In the event of an Emergency help to coordinate the crews and ensure everyone’s safety by building a plan towards resolving the emergency situation and complete an Incident Investigation

  • Read and understand daily Operational Notes and effectively communicate the contents with all appropriate crew members to ensure required tasks get completed

  • Attend and contribute effectively to daily Tier 1 and Tier 2 Production Meetings – coming prepared with details of previous shift and plan for the day

  • Communicate (and support) management directives to your crew members

  • Coach, develop, and train the team to ensure continuous improvement

  • Regularly create and manage detailed shift reports

  • Oversee and manage projects as required to help streamline the process and improve efficiencies

  • Approving employee time

  • Driving all ROPEX requirements through to success on a daily basis, motivate team members for ROPEX longevity

What you bring:

  • 2 to 5 years of production supervisory experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting

  • University or Technical College graduate (preferably in Business Management, Operations Management, or Engineering) or equivalent years of experience

  • Elevated Safety and Quality standards

  • Sound understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles

  • Experience working with a unionized workforce

  • Exceptional communication and team-building skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Good people development and training skills

  • Drive, commitment, self-motivation and high energy. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage stressful work situations, keeping the team focused on tasks and solutions
