Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Tailings & Mine Waste
Toronto, Sudbury, or Fredericton
What you would engage in
Our focus is on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer works in either the Toronto, Sudbury, or Fredericton office and will have the opportunity to :
- Work on our large dam project portfolio, designing solutions for challenging conditions.
- Engage with clients, colleagues and suppliers on environmentally focused field programs and design solutions.
- Manage and lead projects including the development, review and approvals of technical specifications, drawings and design reports and tender packages for major tailing dams, mine waste facilities, containment facilities and mine infrastructure projects.
- Provide mentorship to staff through the methodologies of TSF designs.
- Build client rapport that develops projects from feasibility through to mine closure phases.
- Expand your knowledge by attending conferences and trainings.
- Contribute to industry knowledge and state of practice.
- Be an ambassador for and potentially become an owner of KCB.
What we require
We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer role would require the following qualifications :
- A degree in civil engineering or geological engineering, with a track record of continued development.
- At least ten years’ civil design experience with five years related to mine waste management projects.
- Candidates must have a background in geotechnical design, with a focus on dams, embankments, and slopes.
- Experience in slope stability and seepage analysis, dam design, earthworks, and construction.
- An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams.
- Experience in a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements.
- You must be eligible to register as professional engineer in Canada.
In addition to the must-have requirements above, you will excel in the role if you have the following :
- Experience in seismic analysis of dams and related software packages.
- An ability to find creative solutions and know how to present them.
- A willingness to mentor others and be mentored.
- An ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.
- An ability to apply critical thinking and flexibility in problem solving.
