Overview

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Performance Management, Rapid Transit Office is seeking a Performance Data Analyst to provide expertise in the development and implementation of performance dashboards/reports, data analytics tools, as well as providing business insights through operational performance analysis.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts quantitative data analysis of LRT operational and maintenance performance, using data gathered from various databases and information management systems.
  • Interpret data trends/patterns, and identify performance deficiencies through statistical analysis.
  • Provide transit data support in various LRT performance meetings, and conduct performance monitoring procedures by working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Import, clean, transform, validate and model data to improve data quality and ensure data is accurate and relevant, fostering understanding of operational, business and system issues/trends while advising on data issues including quality, availability and usability.
  • Produce ongoing and ad hoc reports and dashboards that identify issues, provide insight into results and outline recommendations for process improvements to resolve operational, business and system issues.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and business units to identify relevant data to share and contribute to better performance management, and determine stakeholder and business unit data/information needs.
  • Perform on-site data collection and investigations based on prevalent business needs.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated years of experience in a Performance Analyst or similar role, with a background in public transit, transportation engineering, business intelligence, data management, or statistics.
  • Business knowledge of transit operations, service planning, asset management, vehicle/facility maintenance activities would be an asset.
  • Technical knowledge of relational databases, database management software and tools including Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SQL queries, Python.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with strict attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Critical-thinking skills to identify trends in data and provide insight into results and outline recommendations.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly in fulfilling evolving business needs of the department.
  • Interpersonal and relationship management skills to liaise with stakeholders and business units to identify/manage data/information requirements.
