Salary: $5,018 – 5,232 – 5,423 – 5,656 – 5,889/month (2024 Rates)
Schedule: 40 hours weekly; Friday to Tuesday from 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Overview

This position works in the FM Custodial Civic organizational unit, based at Laurel Street Works Yard on the mobile team and at the Cultural Complex, will be deployed to various Burnaby locations as operationally required. This is manual work with limited supervisory responsibilities in the cleaning and care of buildings and premises. An employee of this class maintains assigned buildings according to accepted standards of neatness and cleanliness. The incumbent directs and works with a small group of subordinates engaged in building cleaning; schedules the work according to building usage and normal cleaning practices; performs the specialized janitorial tasks including minor maintenance; keeps simple records related to the work. Some independence of judgement is exercised when scheduling and deciding extent of daily building cleaning required but most decisions are routine and repetitive. Problems are referred to a superior who checks the work through perusal of daily performance reports, discussions and periodic job site inspections to ensure work has been accomplished as required and according to acceptable standards. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications include up to high school graduation and experience in janitorial work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the janitorial care and maintenance of buildings. Sound knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work. Ability to direct and coordinate the activities of subordinates; to deal courteously and effectively with a variety of groups, clubs, individuals or associations using the facilities; to understand and execute oral and written instructions. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Enhanced RCMP Security Clearance would be an asset.
