Overview

Faculty of Health Sciences - Tenure Track Assistant Professor (Public Health)

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a PhD (or be in a PhD program with a defense date scheduled) in Public Health or a related field. Demonstrated training and expertise in at least one of the core competencies of public health is required, as described at the core-competency-tool link: https://www.nccmt.ca/tools/core-competency-tool.

Job Duties

The position will include methodological and substantive research, teaching public health undergraduate and graduate courses, and university and community service. Typical workload for a tenure track professor at the University of Lethbridge is 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous external funding program and apply for funding from federal and provincial agencies (e.g., CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC). Supervision of graduate students and research assistants is also expected.

A tenure track professor is expected to teach 4 courses per academic year (July 1 – June 30), including diverse public health courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Service to the university and community includes active participation in committees and professional associations at various levels and other related activities.

Academic Setting

The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Lethbridge offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Health Sciences, including Public Health. The Bachelor of Health Sciences in Public Health is currently the only such program in Alberta and one of three in Canada. The faculty also offers a Master of Health Sciences and a Master of Health Sciences with a specialization in Public Health, as well as certificates in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Policy and Program Planning and Evaluation. In collaboration with the Dhillon School of Business, a course-based Masters of Health Management is offered.
