Job description
Overview

This position is located in Inuvik, NT - it is NOT a remote/rotational position and requires the successful candidate to live in Inuvik, NT.

The Electrical Field Technologist conducts electrical maintenance and repair for renewable energy systems, alternative technologies and assisting with the generation, distribution, and control of power within the region. Additionally, the position collaborates with the Generation Group in setting departmental objectives and priorities and to engage in cross-training across various program areas as determined by the team.

Responsibilities
  • Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
  • Maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment for renewable energy sources/ Alternative energy, including solar panels, wind turbines, and energy storage systems, while diagnosing and fixing any electrical faults associated with these technologies.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance to ensure optimal operation and safety of renewable energy systems.
  • Maximizes operating profit, equipment reliability and availability through planned maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots electrical equipment, devices, and control systems to determine causes of malfunctions and initiates repairs or recommends action in accordance with good trade practices.
  • Participates in daily, weekly, and annual maintenance and testing activities, and carries out emergency repairs, as required within the region.
  • Performs operational checks, installs and testing on new, modified and existing equipment such as protective relays, VFD drives, and interconnected PLC systems as directed.
  • Maintains and complete regular inspections of the wind turbine according to the manufacture’s recommended procedures including routine maintenance tasks to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of wind turbines. This includes inspecting, cleaning, and lubricating mechanical components, checking electrical systems, and identifying any signs of wear or damage.
  • Troubleshoot and complete repairs of the wind Turbine including diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues that may arise in wind turbines, identify the root causes of problems and perform repairs to get the turbines back in operation. This may include coordinating support from the OEM.
  • Have technical knowledge and experience to complete regular inspections and maintenance of solar panels, inverters, and other necessary electrical components, ensuring all connections are secure and following best utility practices and are operating efficiently and safely.
  • Have technical knowledge and experience to complete regular inspections and maintenance of Battery Energy Storage Systems and associated electrical components, ensuring all connections are secure and following best utility practices and are operating efficiently and safely. This may include coordinating support from the OEM.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Electrical Technologist certification in Renewable or Alternative Energy, WITH at least five (5) year's experience in wind turbines, solar, and battery energy storage systems. Electrical Journeyman experience, as well as utility and power plant experience, would be valuable assets. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Must possess a strong willingness to learn and adapt to working on 3.5MW wind turbines, solar installations and battery energy storage systems. This includes a proactive approach to gaining the necessary technical knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced renewable energy technologies. The candidate should be eager to participate in training programs, stay updated with industry advancements, and continuously improve their skills to ensure optimal performance and safety standards in the field.
  • Experience in SCADA, PLC (Allen Bradley experience preferred), LAN, and Auto CADD systems would be a definite asset.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimum direct supervision.
  • Ability to interpret and utilize manufactures Manuals and Parts Books.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to maintain effective communications with team members, and to prepare documentation and reports.
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to diagnose electrical problems and propose solutions.
  • Good working knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
  • Computer skills to operate a variety of software related to financial, administrative and reporting systems, email, internet, etc.
  • Class 5 Driver's License is required.
  • Satisfactrory criminal record check

Salary for this position ranges from $54.10/hr - $65.72/hr, in addition there is a location allowance of $11,808 per annum. We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes health and dental benefits, disability insurance, life insurance, paid sick days and a defined benefits pension plan. This position is located in Inuvik, NT. Relocation assistance may be provided.
