Job Description and Responsibilities

Operate and maintain heavy motorized equipment, such as forklifts and excavators, to safely and efficiently load and unload ferrous materials in various forms, including scrap metal and steel components. Drive a DZ truck to accurately pick up and drop off bins at designated customer locations, ensuring that all pickups and deliveries are completed on schedule. Work in close collaboration with the scale operator and office staff to coordinate the unloading process, ensuring that customers' materials are handled promptly and effectively. Monitor and manage the flow of traffic in and out of the yard to prevent congestion, facilitating a smooth and efficient operation. This includes directing vehicles as needed and communicating clearly with both customers and team members to uphold operational standards and safety guidelines.

  • Operate heavy motorized equipment used in loading/unloading of ferrous material, including, but not limited to, loaders, cranes, grapple cranes, shears, and other equipment used to support the variety of activities essential to the yard operations
  • Perform preventative maintenance as required, including checking all fluids to ensure motorized equipment is properly maintained
  • Loads trucks accurately (proper weights), safely, and efficiently, and communicates via radio to scale personnel for confirmation of material loaded and any issues that may come up
  • Unload transports with ferrous materials, safely and efficiently, and clean (sweep) trailers of excess material
  • Stockpile/sort metals and place them in the designated areas
  • Use hand‑held mobile radio devices to coordinate tasks and resources with yard and scale personnel effectively
  • Maintain accurate logs and records daily, weekly, and monthly, and/or as required by supervision
  • Pick up/drop off Bins to the customer‑designated location, operating a DZ vehicle
  • Unload all the collected scrap into the inventory locations at the yard
  • Perform repair/maintenance as required on trucks
Requirements
  • Completion of High School and/or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a DZ driving license with an Air Brake endorsement
  • Must have a Clean driving abstract
  • Must be able to drive a Lugger Bin Truck/ 5thwheel Truck without any restrictions
  • Must have 2 years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment
  • Customer focus: takes responsibility for developing excellent customer service, making sure that all purchases are handled professionally and expeditiously
  • Communication Skills: communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and/or via mobile radio devices
  • Team Player: establishes trust with team members, stating clear expectations, recognizes group morale, and acts to protect and/or build as required
  • Self‑motivated: initiates and takes action before being required to do so. Strong work ethic: uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensures everyone around him is working safely
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation as the work site is not accessible by city transit
