Job Summary

The candidate will lead continuous improvement and sustaining engineering activities for nLight's semiconductor technology. They will contribute to the development of next-generation diode lasers from concept to production, support manufacturing with failure analysis and data trend analysis, and coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Skills Required
  • Solid understanding of semiconductor physics, material properties, and photonics.
  • Experience designing GaAs/InP based semiconductor diode laser structures and optical modeling.
  • Experience testing and fabricating semiconductor diode lasers.
  • Data analysis skills; coding skills in Python, SQL, Matlab, C preferred.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvements and maintain yield metrics using techniques like SPC, DOE, Gauge R&R/MSA.
  • Support manufacturing processes, generate BOMs and work instructions, and train personnel.
  • Collaborate with engineering technicians.
  • Solve complex technical problems efficiently to meet schedules.
Requirements
  • MS with over 3 years of experience or Ph.D. in Engineering (Semiconductor Physics, Optoelectronics, Material Science).
  • Understanding of wafer fabrication, material interactions, surface chemistry, failure mechanisms, and analytical techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Preferred experience with mechanical drawings, statistical analysis, and scripting for data management.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary levels based on experience, education, and skills:

  • Device Engineer I: $81,000 - $98,000
  • Device Engineer II: $90,000 - $115,000
  • Senior Device Engineer: $103,000 - $140,000
