Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in an open pit mining or autonomous operations environment.
  • Previous exposure to Autonomous Mining Systems is highly desirable.

Autonomous Command Pit Controller

The Autonomous Command Pit Controller is responsible for coordinating all field aspects of Autonomous Operations Reliability. Advises the control centre on operational changes that should be made to optimise the autonomous operations as well as the individual truck operations within the mine.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

Pit operations efficiency.

  • Coordinate and direct operations team members to ensure safe and production operations.
  • Perform regular survey and validation activities of the Autonomous Operating Zone (AOZ)
  • Conduct pit inspections and area surveys.
  • Conduct field interactions and incident investigations. Create safe zones for others to work.
  • Ensure all Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) activities are carried out in compliance with regulations and mine guidelines.
  • Identify truck behaviours that require maintenance or optimisation and inform appropriate personnel.
  • Interact with the AHS system as needed for manual interventions.

Area 2:

Safe and reliable equipment operation and troubleshooting.

  • Troubleshoot autonomous equipment, run recovery scripts and manually reset equipment as required.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and used in accordance with company health and safety standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring system configuration is optimal for Autonomous Mine Truck (AMT) performance.
  • Responsible for truck recovery and intervention.
  • Responsible for investigating any occurrences that cause AMTs to stop.
  • Accurate completion of documentation and data entry where necessary.
  • Monitor field operations and truck performance to ensure key performance indicators are met
  • Identify faults and troubleshoot equipment as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring the truck is available in the correct mode as required.

Area 3:

Improve autonomous operations reliability.

  • Commit to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Continually seek to improve your team’s skill set.
  • Watch for inefficiencies or problems.
  • Ensure problems and inefficiencies are shared with others.
  • Work collaboratively to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
  • Consider risk along the five dimensions (throughput, time, quality, sustainability and cost).

Area 4:

Work collaboratively with others to deliver operational reliability.

  • Coordinate with other team members on site to meet shift deliverables.
  • Mentor and train new team members.
  • Participate in and lend your expertise to the team.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using the tools provided.
  • Ensure equipment logs and shift logs are accurate and complete.
  • Ensure any deficiencies are communicated to the appropriate team members for follow up.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on our commitment to our team, our communities, the environment, and our shareholders.
Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • College diplomas or university degrees in a related field such as mine engineering, robotics, or autonomous systems is considered an asset.

Work Experience – Nature & Length

  • 5 or more years of experience in an open pit mining environment or autonomous operations environment.
  • Previous exposure to Autonomous Mining Systems is highly desirable, but not essential.

Additional Qualifications – Competency Requirements

  • Advanced computer literacy.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Sound knowledge of open pit mining fundamentals and autonomous mining operations.
