Story Behind the Need (Reason for Hiring)
Internal Audit (3rd Line of Defence) is strengthening its Canadian Banking audit coverage to ensure robust, independent assurance over internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. The team requires a Senior Audit Manager with deep retail banking expertise, strong data analytics capability, and the ability to provide high quality insights to keep the Bank safe and compliant.
Project
Execution of the annual audit plan for Canadian Banking, including audits of retail lending, deposits, operations, regulatory obligations (FCAC, Bank Act), SOX controls, and related risk areas.

Typical Day in Role
- Execute assigned audit activities independently, ensuring work meets department standards.
- Assess First Line controls across financial controls, regulatory obligations, policies, underwriting, systems, and fraud management.
- Use data analytics to evaluate control effectiveness and support audit conclusions.
- Identify control weaknesses, determine root causes, and prepare clear, concise audit findings.
- Present findings and progress updates to management.
- Document audit work in accordance with Internal Audit methodology and IIA standards.
- Collaborate with other audit teams and participate in special projects as required.
- Track and validate remediation of audit issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with auditees and business line partners.
- Work in an agile, fast paced environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
Candidate Requirements / Must Have Skills
- 8+ years of experience in Retail Banking, Audit, Regulatory bodies, or related functions, with deep knowledge of lending and deposit products.
- 7+ years of experience with regulatory obligations (FCAC, Bank Act) and financial controls (SOX).
- 5+ years of experience with AML Testing knowledge
- Proficiency in data analytics or visualization tools (Alteryx, PowerBI, Python).
- Strong audit process and methodology knowledge.
Nice to Have Skills
- Accounting or professional designations (CPA, CIA, etc.).
- Experience in First Line testing, QAR, Compliance, or similar functions.
- Experience presenting to large stakeholder groups.
Education & Certificates
• University or post secondary degree in business, finance, economics, accounting, or related field.
• Professional designations (CPA, CIA, etc.) considered an asset.
