Job summary

A leading mining company in South Africa is looking for an experienced electrical technician to ensure the safety and reliability of winder systems. The role requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, knowledge of PLC systems, and a valid Red ticket. Responsibilities include maintaining optimal winder performance, conducting inspections, and coaching shaft engineering personnel. Candidates with an N4 National Certificate and experience in ABB systems will be preferred. A prompt response to winder issues is vital to prevent production delays.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years winder artisan experience with electrical and electronic control systems.
  • Valid Red ticket or medically fit to obtain one is essential.
  • Experience with ABB systems is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the winder control systems are optimal, safe, and reliable.
  • Respond quickly to winder problems to avoid delays.
  • Update machinery record books regularly.
  • Conduct daily over-inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure software backup and drawings are up to date.
  • Coach engineering personnel on winder systems.
  • Identify redundant equipment to enhance sustainability.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To ensure that the winders in operation are safe, reliable, and available for production at all times by providing electrical/electronic support to all the shaft winder engineering personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • N4 National Certificate in Electrical Engineering (NQF Level 5) is essential
  • Impala Winder Module would be advantageous
  • PLC Training is considered essential
  • Impala HT Modules would be advantageous
  • Drive/control system fundamentals is considered advantageous
  • Minimum of 5 years winder artisan experience, electrical and electronic control systems
  • Experience in: ABB SYSTEMS, PLC logic and control fault finding, Hydraulic systems, DC motors and AC Motors, Electrical Distribution and Networking and communication are essential, Valid Red ticket or medically fit to obtain one is essential
COMPETENCIES:
  • Setting up and maintaining speed distance protection devices i.e., Lillys controllers essential
  • Day to day legal required activities on winders essential
  • Maintaining safety device of a winder essential
  • Winder brake systems and control thereof essential
  • Winder code of practices and procedures essential
  • Operation of DC and AC drives essential
  • Dynamic brake testing of winders essential
  • SAP knowledge would be advantageous
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
  • Ensure the winder control systems are optimized, under control, safe and reliable at all times.
  • Ensure prompt response to winder problems to avoid production delays and possible anxiety provoking situations.
  • Ensure that all machinery record books are updated on a regular basis.
  • Conduct daily over-inspections in different areas to ensure safety compliance.
  • Ensure that software back-up is done, and drawings are up to date to improve efficiency and minimize delays.
  • Coach the engineering shaft personnel on the associated winder system to improve personnel performance.
  • Identify redundant equipment in order to enhance sustainability of the winders.
