Purpose of the Role

The Technical Projects Manager will lead, plan and execute engineering projects across the full project lifecycle — including feasibility, scoping, capital projects, plant upgrades, infrastructure development, equipment installations and process improvements.

The role requires strong technical project management capability within a tissue paper or heavy manufacturing environment, and demands close collaboration with engineering, production, maintenance, procurement, contractors, OEMs, and cross-functional teams.

The successful incumbent will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and aligned to quality, safety and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed project plans including scope, deliverables, resources, timelines and budgets.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to deliver projects safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee on-site project activities, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and minimal disruption to production.
  • Track progress and report on milestones, risks, delays and corrective actions.
  • Facilitate technical discussions and ensure alignment with operational requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, contractors and third-party suppliers.
  • Communicate project updates, risks and issues clearly and timeously.
  • Coordinate resource allocation with engineering, production and maintenance teams.
  • Resolve resource conflicts and project constraints proactively.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality, safety and customer expectations.
  • Maintain full project documentation and change-control records.
  • Develop and manage project budgets effectively.
  • Track expenditure, forecasts and cost deviations.
  • Identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities.
  • Provide leadership, motivation and guidance to project teams.
  • Chair project review and status meetings (e.g., bi-weekly).
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and drive the adoption of best practices.
  • Conduct lessons-learned reviews after project close-out.
Requirements Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (essential).
  • Additional Project Management qualification (advantageous).
  • 15+ years' project management experience, preferably in a Tissue Paper or FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing capital projects, tender processes, contractors, feasibility studies, benchmarking, cost control and execution.
  • Strong working knowledge of manufacturing operations, production processes and safety standards.
  • Proficient in project planning tools (MS Project or similar).
  • Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
