Tax Technician / Tax Compliance Administrator is responsible for ensuring that our clients maintain tax compliance by assisting in the preparation of company, individual, and trust tax returns.

This role plays a pivotal part in liaising with clients, managing tax-related information, and ensuring adherence to tax laws and regulations. The primary purpose is to facilitate seamless tax compliance and to provide valuable support in the realm of financial reconciliation for individuals.

As a Tax Technician / Tax Compliance Administrator, you will be an integral member of our dynamic team, entrusted with the responsibility of upholding tax compliance for our diverse client base.

Your core duties include liaising with clients to gather necessary tax information and documentation, preparing trust, individual, and company income tax returns, and conducting asset and liability reconciliations for individuals.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend to preparation and submission of individual, corporate and trust tax returns.
  • Attend to verifications and audits on individual, corporate and trust tax return.
  • Attend to enquiries from SARS and clients regarding tax matters.
  • Attend to preparation and submission of provisional tax returns.
  • Attend to various tax payments on behalf of clients.
  • Attend to various types of applications for tax clearance.
  • Attend to various types of applications for tax directives.
  • Attend to various disputes, objections, and appeals.
  • Basic SARS administration, including registrations and deregistrations.
  • Liaise with SARS regarding various tax matters.
  • Perform administrative duties and in-house administrative functions in the Tax Unit as required from time to time.
  • Assist and perform other tax administrative services.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Type and scope of supervisory responsibility that is expected from this position.

  • Provide direction to team.
  • Train, provide work direction, and problem‑solving assistance for the Tax team.
  • Oversee the daily operations of Tax Team.
  • Guide and support junior tax staff.
  • Assist Management with the supervision of the tax staff, including hiring, scheduling and assigning work, reviewing performance, and recommending salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations.
Requirements
Experience
  • Have gained at least 2 years' relevant experience in a similar role within an audit/accounting environment.
  • Proven SARS e‑filing experience.
  • Experience working with SARS e‑filing and tax-related platforms is essential.
Working Knowledge
  • Advanced principles and rules of regulatory requirements with regard to SARS.
  • Intermediate understanding of laws governing tasks in the tax duties.
General Knowledge
  • Understand workings of SARS offices and requirements.
  • Intermediate principles and rules of regulatory requirements with regards to SARS.
  • Basic understanding of laws governing tasks in the tax duties.
Advanced Knowledge of the Subject Matter
  • Understand basic workings of SARS offices and requirements.
  • Basic principles and rules of regulatory requirements with regards to SARS.
Comprehensive Knowledge
  • Understanding of basic tax administrative principles.
  • Basic understanding of tax best practices.
Memberships or Accreditation
  • Registered with a recognised professional body (e.g., SAIT, SAIPA).
