A mining operations management firm in Polokwane seeks a qualified candidate to oversee operational efficiency and promote a safety culture. This role involves liaising with the Maintenance Department, monitoring operations, and managing staff performance. The ideal candidate will possess a Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, ample leadership experience, and a valid driver's license. The management position requires ongoing communication with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives effectively.
Responsibilities :
Liaising with Maintenance Department to maximise plant and equipment safe and productive availability.
Working with the company reps and supervisors to drive productivity towards achieving the intended goal.
Recognising / anticipating operational, technical and safety challenges; taking action to prevent or overcome them and seeking continuous improvement
Ensuring effective communication and coordination between contractors and the Mining Operations staff.
Monitoring operations, following up on reports, and taking / initiating corrective action where necessary.
Collaborating with other management team members to ensure that operations objectives are met.
Manage operational costs and minimise waste
Escalate issues to Director
Equipment & Systems Management
Identifies opportunities for optimisation of equipment productivity across the full range of equipment
Making sure all velhicles are in working order.
Working closely with the safety officer, drivers and supervisors to ensure the tasks are carried out accordingly
Chair and coordinate the monthly mine planning process with all business partners on the mine.
Drive the implementation of critical controls within the mining processes
Department management
Manages staff performance
Setting performance standards and goals.
Monitoring and appraising performance against standards and agreed goals; taking corrective action as required.
Identifying training needs and arranging training to enhance performance.
Collaborating with HR in the recruitment and selection of staff.
Applying the appropriate HR procedures in the process of managing staff.
Safety
Encourages and maintains a positive safety and environment culture by continuous monitoring, taking action to eliminate unsafe or environmentally damaging behaviour, and conducting safety and environment-focused meetings.
Stakeholder Relationships
Internal stakeholders :
Company executives and Management colleagues, organised labour, own team members and business partners
External stakeholders :
Other mines in the area, regulatory officials / inspectors, farmers, contractor principals
